Quince, a lovely restaurant in Batubelig

Every day I drive on my motorbike from Canggu to Seminyak.

One day I noticed a small café called Quince. It looks really nice so I planned to go there and have some lunch.

The cafe has a cosy terrace with lots of pot plants. Inside the café it looks awesome with concrete, glass and wooden details and also lots of plants.

Quince gives a homy feeling because of the interior but also because of Armen and Michelle, the owners. They are such nice friendly people, great to talk to

I ordered a baquette with turmeric and lemongrass grilled chicken and it looks like a present, nicely wrapped in paper and the taste was yummi.

Also I tried the Vietnamese salad. The presentation of the plate and the taste was again great.

Quince is also for take away. Open everyday 9am – 4pm

If you are in Bali, don’t miss this lovely place.

Motel Mexicola

Last year when I drove through Jl. Kayujati in Petitenget/Seminyak I saw workers making a very colourful building. Pillars with colourful decorations, all made by hand. It was hard to see more when the building was not finish yet but I knew this building would be very colourful, different and well designed.

Unfortunately I was not in Bali when Motel Mexicola opened his doors. I heard the opening party was great!

Motel Mexicola will in the end be a collection of Mexican restaurants. I’ve been to Motel Mexicola a few times and I was right. The whole setup is amazingly colourful. For the building and interior they use bright Mexican colours and interior designs. It really felt as if I was in Mexico.

In the front of Motel Mexicola there is a terrace. If you go inside you will find a big patio and verandas with booths, all in Mexican style.

The two indoor restaurants are not finish yet but already look stunning, will be even better when they are finished.

For lunch they serve different kind of tacos. The taco’s are not so big so better order a few with different kind of toppings, they are all delicious. For the evening Motel Mexicola offers a different menu.

I can’t wait for the new restaurants in Motel Mexicola to open…

Bungalow Living in Canggu

Recently we moved from Seminyak to Canggu. Very exciting…. a new neighbourhood to discover. When we entered Jalan Pantai Brawa in Canggu I saw directly a wonderful spot called Bungalow Living. I was immediately impressed by the building’s architecture, it’s “old” colonial style, and so I was anxious to see more of Bungalow Living.

Bungalow Living combines home wares with a home-style menu.  A great place to buy gorgeous interior pieces, home wares, books, music and having food, drinks and great coffees…  The next day my husband and I went to Bungalow Living for lunch and at the same time I wanted to buy a present for my friend.

We had a delicious lunch. As dessert my husband had a cheesecake to die for… and for my friend I bought lovely things…  We loved the place. The people are friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed and the vegetarian food and drinks are yummy.

So.. if you are in Bali, don’t miss this amazing place…

Slippery Stone restaurant and lounge

A few times a year I go to Holland for 1 or 2 months visiting my family. When I’m back in Bali one of my first questions is, are there any new restaurants? If yes, how is the food and drinks, is the place stunning?

Here is a new one I found recently.

Slippery Stone restaurant and lounge, it just opened a few months ago, looks stunning, the food is delicious and they have great wines.

If you enter the restaurant, you will be surprised. The entrance is a gallery with amazing photos. You can see the owners love art and design. The restaurant has beautiful pieces of wooden art sculptures and you will find more beautiful photos in the restaurant.

I could tell you more about the great food and wine and the stunning looking restaurant but better is to go there and experience it for your self…

MAMMA SAN kitchen lounge bar

I was eager to make photos of restaurant Mama San. Because I love the ambience, the nice atmosphere, inside of the building and of course the food. The restaurant looks stunning and is very stylishly designed. It is one of my favorite restaurants.

I just read that Mama San won 2 awards for Best Bali 2012, one as best casual-dining restaurant and one for best new restaurant and I fully agree with this!

We (my husband and I), together with friends have been to Mama San several times for lunch or dinner. Before dinner we like to have a fine drink or great cocktail upstairs in the beautiful lounge bar.

Mama San’s Asian menu includes Chinese, Indonesian, Indian, Malay, Singaporean, Thai, Cambodian and Vietnamese. It’s very hard to choose, the food is so delicious. Fortunately they have the option to share. This way you can taste them all. It’s always a culinary pleasure having lunch or dinner at Mama San. If you are in Seminyak don’t miss this brilliant restaurant…

Restaurant il Warung, Italian Indonesian food

Tucked away between hip and trendy shops at jalan Raya Seminyak you will find restaurant Il Warung an Italian Indonesian restaurant.

By accident I discovered restaurant Il Warung. Strolling and shopping in jalan Raya Seminyak I walked into a very small street between two shops. I was happily surprised, because I didn’t expect what I saw at all. I had the feeling I walked into an Asian fairytale, the place looks beautiful and is so colorful.

Restaurant Il Warung is surrounded by little boutiques but In the back of the restaurant you will find a big copper bar and an open kitchen, great design… The colorful Balinese umbrella’s, the Buddha statues, the copper tables and seats with colorful cushions all the Asian details that makes the place so beautiful.

I felt sorry I did not bring my camera with me, but I would come back to make pictures for the weblog.

And the food… the food is yummy. The first time I had a seafood salad and the second time a beef burger. If you live in Asia, it is delicious that you can eat Western food now and then. Restaurant Il Warung is the place were they have it both, Italian and Indonesian food…

Don’t miss this place if you are in Seminyak, Bali!

Bali’s Best Chefs: A Secret Garden Soiree

We heard about the secret dinners/soirees for fine dining. These dinners are hosted by some of the best chefs on the Bali Island as well as from abroad and held in secret (beautiful) locations that are not revealed until 48 hours before the event. This was one of those events we did not want to miss, in particular because we love good food and great wines and it sounded exciting… So we joined the Secret Garden Soiree party and we have no regrets! It was a great evening of meeting great people from all over the world while enjoying good food and drinks.

Thanks to Deborah Cayetano, the host and owner of Bali’s Best chefs.

Great drinks and delicious canapés

We tasted very good South African champagne and wines…

Bali Asli restaurant and cooking classes

After the walk we had lunch in Bali Asli, restaurant and cooking school. When we arrived at the location, wow! the view is stunning and took our breath away… The restaurant is situated in the tranquility of the rice fields and in the distance you can see Mount Agung… amazing view…

We stayed to short in Karangasem otherwise we would have joined for a cooking class. We’ve heard it is so fun, you learn a lot about real authentic Balinese cooking and much much more,  it is very good. That day a group of photographers followed the cooking class and you can see they enjoyed it a lot… Penny Williams, the executive chef and director gives the classes, she is one of the best..

Before the lunch Penny explained us all about the ingredients and the food. The food was great, as well as the atmosphere and location.  Unfortunately the memory card of my camera was full otherwise I could have shown you the food and the beautiful table set up, but we will be back!
