Old Man’s at Batu Bolong Beach

Batu Bolong beach is a popular spot for surfers. The beach has good waves and there are several spots that give many opportunities for surfers to conquer the waves and enjoy surfing adventures.

Also popular is Old Man’s at Batu Bolong. A beachfront beer garden and restaurant made from bamboo. A place with good vibe that is enjoyed by many, young and old, surfers and hipsters, locals and expats. The food is yummy and during the week from 5 till 6 pm, happy hour!

Every last Saturday of the month Old Man’s transforms into a whirlpool of small stalls where everything from homemade cakes, healthy organic drinks to stunning designed jewelry, bags, ceramics, bikinis, swim suits and lots more can be bought.

If you are in Bali, don’t miss it. The market is from 8am – 3pm.

Have fun!

Motel Mexicola

Last year when I drove through Jl. Kayujati in Petitenget/Seminyak I saw workers making a very colourful building. Pillars with colourful decorations, all made by hand. It was hard to see more when the building was not finish yet but I knew this building would be very colourful, different and well designed.

Unfortunately I was not in Bali when Motel Mexicola opened his doors. I heard the opening party was great!

Motel Mexicola will in the end be a collection of Mexican restaurants. I’ve been to Motel Mexicola a few times and I was right. The whole setup is amazingly colourful. For the building and interior they use bright Mexican colours and interior designs. It really felt as if I was in Mexico.

In the front of Motel Mexicola there is a terrace. If you go inside you will find a big patio and verandas with booths, all in Mexican style.

The two indoor restaurants are not finish yet but already look stunning, will be even better when they are finished.

For lunch they serve different kind of tacos. The taco’s are not so big so better order a few with different kind of toppings, they are all delicious. For the evening Motel Mexicola offers a different menu.

I can’t wait for the new restaurants in Motel Mexicola to open…

Bungalow Living in Canggu

Recently we moved from Seminyak to Canggu. Very exciting…. a new neighbourhood to discover. When we entered Jalan Pantai Brawa in Canggu I saw directly a wonderful spot called Bungalow Living. I was immediately impressed by the building’s architecture, it’s “old” colonial style, and so I was anxious to see more of Bungalow Living.

Bungalow Living combines home wares with a home-style menu.  A great place to buy gorgeous interior pieces, home wares, books, music and having food, drinks and great coffees…  The next day my husband and I went to Bungalow Living for lunch and at the same time I wanted to buy a present for my friend.

We had a delicious lunch. As dessert my husband had a cheesecake to die for… and for my friend I bought lovely things…  We loved the place. The people are friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed and the vegetarian food and drinks are yummy.

So.. if you are in Bali, don’t miss this amazing place…

MAMMA SAN kitchen lounge bar

I was eager to make photos of restaurant Mama San. Because I love the ambience, the nice atmosphere, inside of the building and of course the food. The restaurant looks stunning and is very stylishly designed. It is one of my favorite restaurants.

I just read that Mama San won 2 awards for Best Bali 2012, one as best casual-dining restaurant and one for best new restaurant and I fully agree with this!

We (my husband and I), together with friends have been to Mama San several times for lunch or dinner. Before dinner we like to have a fine drink or great cocktail upstairs in the beautiful lounge bar.

Mama San’s Asian menu includes Chinese, Indonesian, Indian, Malay, Singaporean, Thai, Cambodian and Vietnamese. It’s very hard to choose, the food is so delicious. Fortunately they have the option to share. This way you can taste them all. It’s always a culinary pleasure having lunch or dinner at Mama San. If you are in Seminyak don’t miss this brilliant restaurant…

Restaurant il Warung, Italian Indonesian food

Tucked away between hip and trendy shops at jalan Raya Seminyak you will find restaurant Il Warung an Italian Indonesian restaurant.

By accident I discovered restaurant Il Warung. Strolling and shopping in jalan Raya Seminyak I walked into a very small street between two shops. I was happily surprised, because I didn’t expect what I saw at all. I had the feeling I walked into an Asian fairytale, the place looks beautiful and is so colorful.

Restaurant Il Warung is surrounded by little boutiques but In the back of the restaurant you will find a big copper bar and an open kitchen, great design… The colorful Balinese umbrella’s, the Buddha statues, the copper tables and seats with colorful cushions all the Asian details that makes the place so beautiful.

I felt sorry I did not bring my camera with me, but I would come back to make pictures for the weblog.

And the food… the food is yummy. The first time I had a seafood salad and the second time a beef burger. If you live in Asia, it is delicious that you can eat Western food now and then. Restaurant Il Warung is the place were they have it both, Italian and Indonesian food…

Don’t miss this place if you are in Seminyak, Bali!

Welcome on board at grill-bar Pavilion!

Last Friday we went to grill-bar Pavilion, the new hotspot in Batu Belig. If you go to Batu Belig you can’t miss it, from a distance you’ll see a big white tent with a beautiful roof. The big white tent is the terrace of grill-bar Pavilion and attached to it you ‘ll find the restaurant. The restaurant is very stylish designed. The colors blue and white of the couch and the chairs match beautifully with the wooden tables, walls and doors.

It was very busy in Pavilion due to aperitivo that started at 5pm. From now on every Friday! We had a lot of fun with our friends and it is also a great place to make new friends. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. Try the steak it’s very yummy… The Dutch owners Andre and Vanessa looking forward to welcome you!

Deus Ex Machina

With Mathieu, sister Penny and her boyfriend Des we went to Deus Ex Machina in Canggu, Bali. Both men are very into motorcycles. Not the regular ones but the cool tough ones, so…Deus was the place for a visit… If they wouldn’t find a motorcycle they liked, no problem… Deus Ex Machina is happy to build one…

Deus Ex Machina store is so cool, so big and there is much to do. The store offers tough (custom made) motorcycles, cool surfboards, sporty clothes, big canvas bags, trendy slippers, colorful skateboards, etc. too much to tell. Deus Ex Machina is also a lunch and dinner spot, indoors and outdoors. They have an art gallery and they love music, so…on a regular basis there are cool music parties at the Deus venue.

Here are some photos from the store and the art gallery but you will also find a restaurant/cafe, big garden, nice verandahs and in the back of the garden you will find workplaces where the workers build the (custom made) motorcycles and surfboards…

Last evening at Karma beach club at Batubelig beach

With friends Jeffrey and Melany we went for a drink at Batubelig beach. Batubelig is not so far from Seminyak but much quieter.

We heard that the Karma beach club looked great and is right on the beach. It is true, for the building they used mainly bamboo and entering the restaurant you see all big lights made from bamboo as well, very cool.

We had a drink outside on the beanbags in front, enjoying the sunset.

Today while I place this post on my log I heard that Karma beach club was closed the following day.

It is sad as it looked so great… but I’m happy I enjoyed one evening there and was able to make these photo’s ….

La Plancha coolest lounge spot in Bali

Once a month on Friday night is La Plancha’s beach party night. Don’t miss it if you are in Seminyak, good music, always great fun..  La Barca, family of La Plancha is also a cool place for sunset, drinks and food…La Barca is located at Beach Batu Belig.

Red Carpet Boutique

I got an invite for a sensual fashion show in the Red Carpet Champagne bar for last Wednesday. It was the grand opening of the Red Carpet Boutique.  Of course I wanted to see that..  I planned to make some photo’s for the weblog, very exciting…  because I didn’t shoot a fashion show before. It was crowded in the Red Carpet and the atmosphere was great. The canapé’s they served were yummi and the models looked stunning…
