The Baris Dancer

Close to our house a big ceremony took place. Together with my friend Carla I went to the ceremony, we didn’t want to miss this. It is always very special to see a ceremony.  On this one all the Balinese people dressed up in white clothes. The women wear offerings on their head and it is beautiful to see how they  do their offerings and blessings.

During this ceremony a Balinese boy performed the Baris dance.  The Baris dancer wears a bright colored costume and bright color make up on his face.

The Baris, a traditional war dance, glorifies the manhood of the triumphant Balinese warrior. The word baris means ‘line’ or ‘file’ and refers to the warriors who fought for the kings of Bali.
